Join Teaching Artist Brenda Cruz and learn basic registration block printing techniques without carving tools. Participants will draw and transfer a 5"x5" image across three "blocks" that will then register and print. Bring your ideas and come for a low-maintenance project while learning a traditional printmaking technique.

This event is FREE and open to all ages. All skill levels are welcome. Registration is required and will close 24 hours before the event.

Location will be provided upon registration.

Join us this Saturday for a collaborative workshop hosted by Side Street Projects, the Walt Disney Company, and the Kounkuey Design Initiative. This is a second workshop focused on the reconstruction of the Charles White Park Playground. We invite the community to share your thoughts, dreams, and visions for the park.

Join Artist Heather Hilliard Bonds for her “Little Doll Sachets Filled with Love & Intentions” doll-making workshop, partnered with the William Grant Still Arts Center, honoring the 45th Annual Black Doll Show. The workshop is happening on Saturday, January 17th, from 10 am to 1 pm. Participants will learn to create small sachet dolls filled with love, hope, and personal intention. Each participant will design a one-of-a-kind doll that holds private messages—made especially for you, by you.

Space is limited, and registration is required. All materials are provided, and no prior experience is needed.

Our Youth Woodworking Workshop will take place alongside the doll-making session. Space is limited, and registration is required for both workshops.

Heather Hilliard Bonds is an artist, raised by her mother Nancy Hillard, from the Altadena and Pasadena Area. She has been an artist since she first picked up a crayon. She has always had a love for children and began her career in childcare. This experience led to an internship with the Armory Center for the Arts, where she realized she could combine her enjoyment of working with children with her other passion in life, which is art.

Mei is a weaver and woodworker from Gig Harbor, Washington. At the core of her artistic practice, she is interested in folklore and family history. She came to Los Angeles to receive a BA in Studio Art at Pomona College. Since graduating, she has been working as an artist, educator, and baker.

Join Teaching Artist Diane Briones Williams during ArtNight Pasadena for a hands-on workshop that introduces participants to the art of tapestry weaving, offering a creative and meditative experience. Using simple tools and techniques, attendees will learn how to create their own woven piece, which they can take home and continue working on. This workshop is designed for ages 12 and up and is suitable for both beginners and those with some crafting experience.

ABOUT THE ARTIST

Diane Briones Williams is a Filipinx artist whose practice is deeply rooted in research. She specializes in creating mixed-media artworks, including wall-hanging, suspended, and free-standing sculptural weavings. 

Utilizing materials sourced from her own family and friends, Williams weaves their histories and narratives in her work, thereby acting as a custodian of their stories. She also employs pre-colonial dyeing techniques using indigenous Philippine plants, food scraps, and minerals, allowing her to reconnect with her heritage and culture.

Join us and our friends at Gloria Molina Grand Park for this year’s FREE Block Party! Side Street Projects will be bringing the Woodworking bus, which will be open to all ages. Our teaching artists will be leading a wooden name-tag making activity. There will also be music, movement, art, and food. Groove with KCRW Summer Nights, explore Little LA activations, enjoy delicious bites from food trucks, splash around, and end the night with a dazzling Drone Show.

ABOUT THE ARTIST

Amerie Bugarin is an outstanding academic student at John Muir High School, with a deep passion for art and community engagement. She is determined to advance her artistic journey both in her local community and throughout her college career. In addition to her academic achievements, Amerie has spent her valuable time during her junior and senior years with Pasadena Exploring the Arts and Side Street Projects, where she has learned to incorporate her art into everyday tasks. She is also dedicated to her athletic pursuits, having completed three years in water polo and swimming, with plans to complete her fourth year in swimming as a 12th grader. Amerie is focused on completing her senior year and is ready for what lies ahead.
