Cara Levine: Silverlinings, Saturday, November 14, 10 am - 12 pm
Developed in response to the January 2025 Los Angeles wildfires, Cara Levine's Silverlinings invites individuals directly impacted by the fires to reflect on experiences of loss, memory, and recovery through a participatory art-making process.
During Silverlinings, individuals are invited to create a drawing in sand of an object lost in the fires or one that evokes a memory of home. Levine casts each drawing twice in pewter, with one casting given to the participant and the other added to a growing archive of personal memories. Begun in 2025, after Levine lost her childhood home in the Palisades fire. This collective archive will be exhibited at 18th Street Arts Center alongside the names of participating community members.
Presented as part of 18th Street Arts Center's In the After series, Silverlinings creates space for remembrance, creative expression, and collective care while honoring the personal stories and experiences of communities impacted by the wildfires.
This Side Street Arts event is an introductory workshop. Participants are invited to complete their objects 1:1 with Levine.
