Artist-in-residence Mariah Cochran's residency, titled Weaving Care and Connection through Braiding Circles, first workshop is on Saturday, May 3rd from 4:00 pm - 6:00 pm at Side Street Projects HQ!
Join us for a free workshop on the art of braiding, honoring the craft’s beauty and legacy within Black traditions and culture. Come connect and learn how to form a three-strand braid using repurposed fabric strips, and embrace braiding as a meditative practice rooted in both self-care and community care.
Mariah’s residency aims to engage participants in a reflective relationship with nature, our bodies, and how we can care for them through the practice of braiding. The project will explore braiding as a sacred practice in Black and Indigenous communities, a somatic experience, and an art form that is inherently rooted in community and connection.
Stay tuned for more as the project develops!
This project is funded by the Pasadena Community Foundation.
