Alice Könitz is a German born and L.A. based artist. In 2012, Könitz designed, built and founded The Los Angeles Museum of Art (LAMOA) in front of her Eagle Rock studio. LAMOA became a “platform for an organic institution that lives through participation” and was included in the Hammer Museum’s biennial Made in L.A. in 2014. In that show Könitz and LAMOA were selected as the winners of the Mohn Award honoring artistic excellence.

Könitz studied at the Kunstakademie in Düsseldorf, and California Institute of the Arts. Her sculptural work uses a formal language that is influenced by the contemporary built environment. It develops from a process that reinterprets places and situations using a variety of materials and media.

Alice Könitz has presented her work in numerous exhibitions including the 2008 Whitney Biennial, the 2008 California Biennial and the Tirana Biennial (Tirana, Albania). Her solo exhibitions have been at Susanne Vielmetter Projects, Los Angeles and Berlin; LAXArt; Hudson Franklin, New York; LACE, Los Angeles, and Luis Campaña, (Cologne, Germany). Her work has been reviewed and published in Artforum, Frieze, Flash Art, Sculpture Magazine, Art and Text, the New York Times, the Los Angeles Times, among other publications.
