• Alternate Routes :: Support the Bus •
Help keep the bus on the road with your time, treasure, or talent
Help keep Alternate Routes affordable and accessible to kids from all walks of life. Since 1997, Alternate Routes has brought the lost art of creative woodworking to literally thousands of children all over LA County. In fact, in the 8 year history of this program, we've been able to keep our fees virtually unchanged thanks to the generous support of foundations and individuals like you.

Your tax-deductible donation of funds or materials will have a big impact on our ability to provide quality programs to the children of LA County. And, since we're a non-profit organization, your donations are tax deductible to the full extent of the law. There's dozens of ways for you to make a difference, and here's just a few ideas:
• HOW YOU CAN HELP •
There's tons of ways YOU can help the bus. We listed a few ideas below that reflect the programs' current needs. CLICK HERE to contact us via email or call (626) 798-7774.
  • Adopt a Site - Sponsor classes at your favorite school or community center.

  • Support Our Teachers - Insure the quality of our programs by earmarking your gift to subsidize our teachers' modest salaries. Help us keep our best teachers on the bus for years to come.

  • Be a Tool Angel - They don't make tools like they used to. Kids go through hand tools pretty quick. Help us keep our tool collection current and functional. Antique tools welcome (they actually work better). We're always on the lookout for Miller Falls eggbeater drills circa 1930 in good working condition.

  • Clear Pine - We are always on the lookout for good quality "clear" white pine (no knots).

  • Retired Woodworker? - If so, we are seeking a nice person to help us mill lumber for the kids' projects. Our program is mobile, so we need to pre-cut wood to specific lengths and widths in order to fit on the bus. If you have about 6 hours on a weekend every few months, please give us a call @ (626) 798-7774.

  • Professional Services - Can you help us design or print brochures? Maybe you can make a video or do a photo essay about the bus? Are you a mechanic who works on diesel engines? The bus can utilize professionals from all disciplines who wish to donate their talents.

  • Unrestricted Funds - As always, a simple cash donation is very nice. Side Street Projects is a nonprofit organization. We have an outstanding history with donors, and your generosity will help us keep the bus on the road for years to come.
