| Ellen Birrell is an artist, editor, publisher, and teacher who lives and works in Los Angeles. She has an MFA from UCLA, and has been a member of the regular faculty in the Photography Program at California Institute of the Arts since 1991. In 1993 she co-founded Project X, a collaborative producing group, which, in 1997 began publishing the magazine X-Tra, a quarterly journal about art and criticism. She is co-editor and co-publisher of that magazine. Her work has been exhibited nationally and internationally. She traveled to Breda, the Netherlands, to complete a solo installation as part of Los Angeles Mindquakes at de Beyard Museum and had a solo exhibition at the Santa Monica Museum of Art. Her work has been represented in many group exhibitions. Currently her work can be seen in the portfolio Pasadena Adjacent, commemorating the impact of the Pasadena Art Museum on contemporary Los Angeles artists. |
