Martin Kersels is a Los Angeles-based artist who works with sculpture, video, audio, photography, and performance. His history is based in performance, namely his collaborations from 1984 to 1993 with the performance collective, SHRIMPS. From 1993 to the present he has been making sculptural and photographic work that many times uses ideas drawn from performance. He is currently represented by Dan Bernier Gallery in Los Angeles, Gorney Braven + Lee in New York, and Galerie Georges-Philippe & Nathalie Vallois in Paris. His work has also been shown in numerous group shows such as Young Americans 2 at the Saatchi Collection in London, The 1997 Whitney Biennial, and The Power of Suggestion: Narrative and Notation in Contemporary Drawing at MOCA (Los Angeles). His work is in the collections of the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, Peter and Eileen Norton, Museum of Contemporary Art, Miami and Dean Valentine. Martin was featured on the April 2000 cover of Art in America.
